Register of Australian Interests Overseas

Background

Background

The Register of Australian Interests Overseas is an initiative to complement private sector security arrangements overseas. The register, developed by ASIO's Business Liaison Unit (BLU) and National Threat Assessment Centre (NTAC) provides greater connectivity to Australia's intelligence community, and enables more targeted security advice.

Australian companies are invited to register the location details of their overseas facilities through a secure website. In the event of an emerging security situation, ASIO will be able to identify Australian interests within the vicinity. Where a threat is serious, credible and imminent, ASIO will be able to contact affected companies directly if necessary. In such a scenario, business would benefit by being able to expedite their own security response arrangements through the receipt of early advice.

Details of Australian Government facilities overseas will be held in the same database.
